Fun in the sun: Brides mag's Newlywed Nest

By Lauren Elkies

In a desire to entice more young couples to become readers, Brides magazine has hooked up with the developer of Village Green, a condominium at 311 East 11th Street, between First and Second avenues, for the Newlywed Nest event.

Wedding-Scoops.com showed up at the eighth-floor triplex penthouse yesterday (see slide show above) to check out the open house, which runs through May 22. The $3.545 million, 1,970-square-foot, two-bedroom apartment with 2,032-square-foot terrace is outfitted with Ikea furniture, including a multi-colored dog tent (see photo) in what is called the "solarium/yoga room." The building aims to be the first LEED gold-certified building in the East Village.

While Samara O'Shea, author of "For the Love of Letters & Note to Self," was there for one-on-one consultations, the highlight of the open house yesterday, in the 80-something degree weather, was the terrace, with amazing views (see photos).

Proceeds from sales of the Sweet Things Bake Shop treats in the showhome kitchen (see photos) go to the Lower East Side Girls Club, as do the proceeds from the May 22 tag sale of the contents of the showhome, open to the public. For more information, including a list of scheduled events held in the showhome, go to bridesfirstlook.com/newlywednest.
